Arriving in Lima Peru

Misterpiggy was only a bit worried that this trip might be off to bad start when he arrived at Lima's Jorges Chavez airport with no tour guide to greet him despite many the many tour companies holding signs looking for their arriving customers.  An hour later, Carlos the tour guide arrived with driver and apologized because he thought Misterpiggy's 8 pm flight came in later.

So the tour bus pulled out of  the hectic Lima airport into the muggy and foggy night.  Cars and trucks honked incessantly and jockeyed for a better position on Lima's congested highway during the half hour ride to the hotel in Miraflores.  With a population of seven million inhabitants, Lima was a very hustle and bustle city. Carlos was  giving some information about Lima, but Misterpiggy was distracted by all the chaotic traffic, and the bright flashing lights of police cars and casinos, that gave the city an eerie and gritty feeling, not unlike how it looked like in the movie Blade Runner.

Finally made it to the Casa Andina Miraflores hotel about an hour later. Checked into his fifth floor room and made a quick stop to fetch bottled water from a nearby gas station.  It cost about one US dollar for a 2.25 litre bottle which was not unreasonable and Misterpiggy got a decent exchange rate on his Peruvian sols that he got back in change.

It was a tad disconcerting to find that all the buildings in the neighbourhood had metal bars on their windows and doors, but the streets in the hotel area were well lit and it didn't seem too unsafe.  Misterpiggy looked forward to seeing the city after a good night's rest.
